London Life

{If you’re new here, we lived a year or so abroad mainly in London, UK. The following is how it came to be. This is why we moved to London and our heart for travel. To read more about our daily adventures and mishaps across the pond, check out the London category tag.}

The whole London thing did not just happen.

There was a lot of prayer and preparation and listening and waiting before picking up our lives, moving, and living-abroad.
 We did not want to forget all the things the Lord has done, threads He’s strung together, doors He’s opened and closed, and promises He has placed in our hearts and then fulfilled. These are the posts about it in detail: Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4.

God is faithful.

Basically, from September 2010 through January 2011, there was something every single month that we prayerfully considered and took into account for preparing to move to London.

Just after Valentine’s Day, a word came to us from Joshua 3 – specifically for me and Grant “leave your tents” and “get your feet wet.” We applied to grad school in March, interviewed in April, visited in May, accepted offers in June, and got our student visas in July. In August we moved to London.

“And your many hopes

and your many fears

were meant to bring you here

all along…”

“Let them give glory to the Lord and
declare His praises in the islands [UK]
– Isaiah 42:12

We just want to be sure, that if anyone hears anything about our story, they know one thing:

          God made it all possible and deserves all the glory.

          God made provision for us financially.

          God created community for us in London.

          God gave us prayer people, direction, and guidance.

          God made a way for us and proved Himself faithful.

We just happen to be the grateful recipients of His relentless love.

“You crown the year with a bountiful harvest;
even the hard pathways overflow with abundance.”
– Psalm 65:11

It has not been easy, but it has been unbelievably beautiful. Remember my cake post? Well, we are still firm believers in loving the messy, this-is-not-what-I-thought-it-would-be life; and that laughter heals much.

Psalm 65:11 is the theme verse of this year in London. God has truly crowned our year here with a harvest that will last – friendships that encourage, memories that will never fade, and travel opportunities and experiences that we never could’ve had any other way. He doesn’t promise bliss without the hard; He promises that the hard places will “overflow with abundance” – and thankfully, God is faithful. Amen.

I want to encourage you if you’re considering a life-changing move or a new season of life. We read this by a dear friend and it made all the difference in our prayer and preparation in moving to London:

Just know that when God opens up doors for you to step out and be brave, He takes you, moves you, pushes you, changes you, and loves you.

Do it.

When you get the chance, do it.

If you want the chance, ask for it.
